Moving can make your head spin with all the details that have to be completed to get ready to move. You can easily feel like you are forgetting something with so many things to stay on top of. But you’ve got this and a professional moving company will help you! You can greatly reduce moving stress with a well thought out plan and gather some moving tips along the way. Begin your moving checklist with the following 5 moving tips to reduce moving stress.

1. Create a Checklist With A Realistic Timeline

It’s a good idea to start making a list at least two weeks before your moving date. Give yourself time to plan everything that needs to be accomplished so nothing is missed as your moving day approaches. Moving stress will be reduced when you make a moving checklist complete with packing lists, labeling boxes for moving and considering hiring professional movers.

Start your packing list with the items you will not need for a while. A stack of packed up boxes will give you a sense of accomplishment. Packing the seldom used items first will declutter spaces and help you to organize a packing checklist for items you will need easy access to. For fragile or valuable items, you may want to save these and have professionals that are experts at packing and moving help you with these to ensure they make it to your final destination unharmed.

2. Make Labeling a Leisure Task

Moving stress will be seriously reduced if you take the time to organize moving boxes with related items.  Extra time spent in labeling boxes for moving now will save a ton of time later when you need to use your belongings.  Title the packing list with the room in which those items belong.  Use bullet points on the packing list, underneath the room title, with all the items contained in the box.  You could even color code each label with colors designated for each room, such as all blue labels go to the master bathroom and yellow ones belong to the kitchen.

Use smaller boxes to pack small items together and include them with a bigger box with related items. In a large box, your small items could shuffle around and get lost.  Digging through a large box for small things can mess up the organization of the entire box.  Labeling the smaller boxes inside will also be helpful.

When packing up electronics, take pictures of where the cords belong before unplugging them and also place labels on the cords.  Masking tape works great for wrapping and labeling cords.

Pack a box of necessary items you will need on moving day.  Think ahead and determine what clothes, toiletries, food items and kitchen items you will need on moving day.

While labeling boxes for moving, make a master moving checklist of all the boxes for every room and complete the packing checklist of items inside. The whole family can refer to the master list to find things, which will relieve moving stress for everyone.

3. Plan Ahead For Utilities

Cancel the utilities in your old home for the day after you move out.  For your new home, schedule the utilities to be turned on the day before you move in. Eliminating a glitch with utilities will truly reduce moving stress.  Your moving checklist should also remind you to notify the post office for forwarding your mail.

4. Don't Forget To Clean

Another moving tip is to keep a box of cleaning supplies handy.  Cleaning up after a move is part of the process whether you do it yourself or hire a professional cleaning company.  You can get a head start by packing a room and cleaning the room.  Start cleaning from the top down removing dust and cobwebs from fans, ceilings, vents and light fixtures.  Work your way down cleaning windows, mirrors and walls. Clean the cabinets and closets, bath bubs, toilets, and finish up with the floors.

5. Hire Professional Movers

Hiring professional movers will not erase all of your concerns, but they have lots of practice, expertise, and can lift the burden from your shoulders.  Do your research for a good moving company, one with a good reputation for moving household items safely and efficiently. Also check with the companies to see what services are available, from packing to storing.

Plan ahead and get your name on the schedule to combat moving stress. Asking professional movers for their moving tips will be very insightful as well as giving you a feel for how easy they will be to work with.
